At Altina Widllife Park we offer a Work Experience/Placement program. Student's are advised to only apply if they have a genuine interest in working in the Zoo industry as applications will be screened by Management. Positions Available:

APPRENTICE WELDER/FABRICATOR & GENERAL MAINTENANCE REPAIR HAND

We have a permanent position available for a highly motivated Apprentice Welder/Fabricator who is ready to kick-start an exciting career in a dynamic and diverse environment with an extensive range of roles with a local family owned & operated business.

This is your chance to learn and grow. You’ll gain hands-on experience completing a variety of work including STICK, MIG & TIG welding, fabrication, fitting, assembly and service work, while studying towards the MEM31922 Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (Welding), as well as general on-site repairs including fencing, plumbing repairs, operating machinery and everything in-between.

This role is designed to suit someone who dislikes repetition, loves hard work and doesn’t want to be in a shed all day. This position is split across 2 locations with 3 days required on-site in Darlington Point & 2 days required in our Fabrication Workshop in Griffith.

What You’ll Do:

  • STICK, MIG & TIG Welding with a variety of steels.
  • Fabrication and Assembly of moulds and spare parts
  • Maintenance & Repairs on Batching Plants & Machinery.
  • Project work and service tasks within our workshop.
  • A range of repairs in all fields such as basic plumbing, fencing etc.
  • Study towards your Cert III in Engineering

What we Offer:

  • Starting Full Time Rate of $25.50 per hour + annual & personal sick leave entitlements.
  • Work hours are: Monday-Friday hours 7am-3pm.

FULL TIME MAINTENANCE/MULTI-SKILLED LABOURER

About the position:

This position is for full-time employment, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday with the possibility of overtime to complete daily duties. The successful applicant will assist with maintenance and construction projects at Altina. Due to the nature of this work and with regular deadlines to meet, it can be a fast paced environment with the entirety of the work being hands on.

Duties Include, but are not limited to:

Assist with general maintenance of the facilities, fences and fabrication of materials (welding a variety of steels), Repairs etc. General cleaning duties of work sites, work sheds and equipment, assist tradespersons as requested, operation of plant machinery, irrigation as required, operating basic tools and machinery.

This position requires the following: 

The applicant must be fit for physical work, enthusiastic, able to demonstrate a high level of work-ethic/initiative, be able to work well as a team and unsupervised, previous maintenance/labouring/trade experience,  experience operating tools and machinery related to the position with appropriate Licences/Qualifications, hold a current manual drivers licence. Experience with Heavy Machinery and/or welding would be a strong advantage.

A competitive wage package will be offered in line with the level of experience and skills.

TRAINEE ANIMAL KEEPER

Altina Wildlife Park is located in Darlington Point NSW and is looking for a trainee to join our dedicated team. With a diverse range of animals such as Red Panda, African Lions, Rhino, Giraffe, Primates & so much more, this position promises to be a unique & rewarding opportunity!

This is your chance to learn & grow with an extensive range of native & exotic species in a rare, everchanging industry. You’ll gain hands on experience completing a variety of work including preparing prescribed diets, monitoring consumptions and reporting health or behavioural abnormalities, prepare and carry out enrichment activities, maintain enclosures to a high health standard of cleanliness, conducting fun & education tours for visitors, while studying towards your Certificate III in Wildlife & Exhibited Animals Care by correspondence.

What You’ll Do:

  • Abide by Company Protocols and Procedures
  • Prepare Prescribed diets and associated tasks.
  • Conduct fun, educational tours for visitors
  • Prepare and carry out enrichment activities
  • Maintain enclosure cleanliness
  • Study towards your Cert III in Wildlife & Exhibited Animals Care.
  • Be able to Work an 80-hour fortnight roster including weekends & public holidays where applicable.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A positive, practical, ‘common sense’ attitude and enthusiasm to learn new skills.
  • Drivers licence
  • Punctuality & reliability
  • A genuine passion for wildlife and animal welfare
  • Attention to detail with strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to work individually as well as in a team.
  • Experience with large animals and/or horses would be an advantage but not a requirement.

FULL TIME ANIMAL KEEPER/TOUR GUIDE 

About the position:

A position is available for a motivated and enthusiastic Animal Keeper. He/She must be willing to carry out all duties associated with Park and animal management including enclosure maintenance, animal welfare, conducting tours, animal food prep (weigh, portion, prepare, store) and general duties.

We are offering a full-time position (over a 14-day roster) in which communication, time management, and knowledge of various animals and their behaviour is necessary. Experience in handling horses would be an asset but not necessary.

Skills, Knowledge, and experience:

  • Must be willing to do overtime/weekend work.
  • Certificate III in Captive Animals will be an advantage but not a necessity.
  • Knowledge and experience in captive management of a range of species.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and be able to work as part of a team.

VOLUNTEER PREP PERSONNEL

Do you have a spare few hours and want to help our amazing animals? Come help our keepers chop and dice delicious fruit and vegetables for our Meerkats, Primates, Wallabies, Red Panda & Wombats. If you have a passion for animals and are interested in lending a hand to our mischievous friends, reach out to our team on 0412060342 and let us know an arrangement that suits you! You will also get the chance to see our animal’s appreciation as you feed them their lunch before you go!

VOLUNTEER - Must be available at least 1 day per week for a minimum of 3 months.

Altina is always looking for fun, animal loving volunteers to join our team. Duties will include; basic animal handling, cleaning and basic maintenance of enclosures, food preparation etc. Hours are 8am-4pm.

Prior animal experience is necessary.
